In a sudden turn, the army in Guinea-Bissau declared it had taken ātotal controlā of the country after gunfire erupted around the capital, just days after a hotly contested presidential vote.
| Free at Last Abducted school girls in Nigeria have been freed. This was reported yesterday, and the children will be reunited with their parents. One thing that stood out, however, is that there was no word on the culprits and whether they will be brought to justice. |

MARKET MOVES
BUSINESS

Petty Party
South Africa is navigating troubled waters, and many are asking if their leader, Ramaphosa, is up to the challenge.
The ongoing spat with the Trump administration is taking a toll on trade negotiations, and it is likely a foregone conclusion that SA will be excluded from the G20 when the U.S. takes over control next year.
To make matters worse, a new bill in the U.S. Senate plans to extend AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act) for two years, but will explicitly remove South Africa from the agreement.
Pettiness on full display! Letās see how talented Ramaphosa is in maneuvering through these choppy waters.

Oil Refinery
Dangote Refinery Ramps Up
Honeywell is teaming up with Dangoteās mega-refinery in Lekki to basically hit the turbo button on African oil refining, with plans to jump capacity from 650,000 barrels a day to a wild 1.4 million by 2028.
The upgrade, powered by Honeywellās tech, catalysts, and Oleflex kit, will let the plant run on a wider crude slate, churn out more Euro-V fuels, and ramp polypropylene output to 2.4 million tons a year, turning Nigeria from fuel importer-in-chief into regional supply boss.
If this timeline holds, Dangoteās refinery becomes the worldās largest, Honeywell bags a flagship win, and West Africaās energy security improves drastically.
FINANCE

šø Ghana slashes rates to revive growth
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) just chopped 350 basis points off its key interest rate, dropping it from 21.5 % to 18.0 % ā a bold move showing confidence that inflation and macro pressures are cooling.
Inflation in Ghana has plunged to around 8 %, a dramatic drop from 54 % at its peak, giving the central bank room to ease and hopefully turbo-charge borrowing, business growth, and consumer spending.
For everyday people and entrepreneurs: cheaper loans, easier business financing, and a softer cost-of-living backdrop could be on the horizon ā but success hinges on whether real-wage growth and supply-chain stability follow.
TECH
ā”ļø Morocco Goes Mega-Digital
Morocco just announced plans for a 500 MW green data center in Dakhla, one of Africaās biggest yet, powered entirely by solar and wind. The site will also house a new AI and energy-transition institute, training the next wave of data engineers and clean-tech pros. The move cements Moroccoās bid to become a regional digital hub linking Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
Quick Data Center Facts:
š Africa currently hosts ~115 active data centers across 28 countries ā with Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt leading.
ā” Total capacity is roughly 400 MW, expected to double by 2030.
š” Moroccoās new 500 MW project alone would exceed the continentās existing capacity, marking a major digital leap.
SMALL CHOP

Mark your calendars for December 11, 2025. HBO will be airing a documentary on Wizkid - Long Live Lagos.

DISH OF THE DAY
Thanksgiving Feast
Thanksgiving was first celebrated in 1620 when European settlers came to America. The local natives brought food like corn, deer, and squash to the meal, which signified an alliance between the groups. In modern times, Turkey is the main show at Thanksgiving dinner, accompanied by sides like Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, pies, and collard greens to name a few. My friend hosted dinner, we stuffed ourselves, and fell into a several-hour food coma. |
Did You Know? Americans eat over 46 milliion turkeys on Thanksgiving day, roughly one-fifth of all turkeys consumed annually.ā š¦ š
