Market Moves

BUSINESS 💸💹
Lumber Yard
When we put gold and Ghana in the same sentence, we are typically referring to the actual yellow, shiny stuff. But in this case, we are referring to lumber, trees, and wood…
Ghana just exported its first “gold standard” FLEGT-licensed timber to the EU—a major milestone after 16 years of negotiations. This means all its timber exports are now certified legal and traceable, with community compensation baked in and with electronic tracking.
But don’t get a woody just yet, since doubts remain as the EU is backing out of binding agreements, like they did in Cameroon and Liberia.
These new deals have sparked outrage and risk undercutting progress against illegal logging, not to mention the environmental impact on forests and wildlife. Either way, it does leave opportunities to boost export revenue and spur development.
✈️” Flying to Unite”
And for those of you in Nigeria who may want to visit these new Ghanaian gold standard lumber yards, air travel just got easier by way of United Nigeria Airlines since they expanded flights to Ghana.
Their inaugural flights will begin mid-November 2025, and the short one-hour jaunt between the two West African nations should improve regional trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and economic ties.
FINANCE 💰

Lagos Nigeria
Nigeria is seeking to raise about $2.3 billion through the sale of Eurobonds to help shore up a big budget shortfall in the country.
For those that may not be familiar with these types of programs, essentially the government will borrow money from investors home and abroad, giving them a guaranteed and relatively high return on their investment. The money collected will be used to fill budget gaps and the ability to refinance other lingering debt.
Despite recent drama between Nigeria and the U.S., with threats of military action and sanctions looming, there still seems to be growing confidence in the Nigerian economy.
The new economic measures, like the removal of the fuel subsidy, monetary policy ( floating of the naira), and tax reform, have given investors some reassurance that Nigeria is serious about getting its economic house in order.
TECH 🧑💻📲

Steven Bartlett
One of my favorite podcasts is “The Diary of a CEO”. Seriously, it is a gem. The programming covers wide-ranging topics and hosts interviews with some of the top business leaders, politicians, and celebrities worldwide. Their YouTube channel has over 12 million subscribers and is extremely lucrative.
The man behind the success is Steven Bartlett, and he just scored another big deal by landing a huge 8-figure investment for his holding company Steven.com. His vision? To build “the Disney of the creator economy,” where individual creators can grow their brands just like Disney did with Mickey Mouse, but for today’s digital age.
The funding round was led by Slow Ventures and Apeiron Investment Group, and Bartlett still owns over 90% of the company.
Fun Fact about Steven Bartlett – his mum (mom for normal people) is Nigerian.

Ah, my son, you think you can just run off to England and live life like a king, skipping school, carrying knives, and making unexplainable money? Eh?
You will know yourself now…
“My child, you are going back to Africa, to boarding school in Ghana!”
Make you no cry to the court and talk say - “I want back my London life, I am living in hell!” O!
But the esteemed court listened and said, “Hold on, young man, we understand your pain, but your parents have done their job, and no, you will stay in Ghana until you finish your GCSEs.”
Child- You say you feel like an alien because you don’t speak Twi, and you’re lonely?
This is character building, my son!
And if you try any nonsense, you will be dealt with in true African fashion!
TLDR: A 15-year-old sued his Ghanaian parents so he could return to England, since he didn’t want to live in Africa. The court sided with his parents.
DISH OF THE WEEK 🥘🍛
![]() Moi Moi | Moi Moi Time! When I touch down in Nigeria, one of my first duties and obligations, after changing money and bribing customs officials (jk), is to find some food. Moi Moi is one of my go-to meals. I love it. Moi Moi is a mashed mix of black eyed peas, onions, eggs, and spices. They are steamed in banana leaves until they form into small loaves. They are soft, tasty, and have a great spicy kick. |
